Bondi Balconies

PRINCIPAL AND DESIGN ARCHITECT

Tony Legge

Situated on one of Australia’s most iconic shorelines, Bondi Balconies is a sensitive architectural intervention that redefines the relationship between private residence and public vista. Originally constructed as a hotel and later adapted into apartments by PTW Architects in the mid-1990s, the building’s eastern façade – with views towards the Pacific – was initially lacking outdoor space.

Legge & Legge Architects was commissioned to extend the living experience through a series of contemporary, cantilevered balconies. The design responds directly to the building’s existing fabric, giving each of the eight eastern apartments a generous outdoor area to enjoy the surrounding landscape.

We devised the additions as an elegant ‘plug-on’ element, enhancing the apartments with a new dimension of coastal luxury.
