Nestled in a harbour side enclave, this house was originally conceived by Allan Dukes in 1984. The project presented a unique architectural footprint: a fan-shaped plan that radiated from a central pivot, embodying the spirit of experimentation of its era. Legge & Legge Architects was commissioned to reimagine the residence for a new generation - specifically, the evolving needs of the owner’s daughter and her young family.

Having previously designed a bespoke motor yacht for the owners, the architects approached the redesign with a sensitivity to form, proportion and craft - bringing marine precision and refined detailing to the residential renovation. The project preserves the core geometry of Dukes’ original fan-shaped plan, while refining the internal floorplan to suit contemporary family life.

The detailing of this project has the level of finesse you would expect from superyacht interiors. A crisp, clean palette, curved forms and moments of light and shadow are carefully orchestrated to enhance the home’s connection to its surroundings.

At its heart, the project is a conversation between two generations of design - one rooted in the expressive optimism of the 1980s, the other in a modern ethos of quiet luxury.
