Positioned high above the city in one of Sydney’s most established commercial towers, The American Club was a thoughtful reinvention of a heritage institution.

With origins dating back over a century, the Club had long served as a place of connection and community. The brief called for a complete transformation - one that would honour the Club’s history while reconsidering it for a new generation of members.

The design centred on a sense of openness, warmth and timeless material choices. Public and private zones were subtly defined through tactile shifts in geometry. Open, light-filled areas offered panoramic views across the harbour, while intimate nooks, lounges, and meeting spaces were carefully layered throughout the floorplan to encourage both conversation and privacy.

Natural timbers, custom furnishings and softly reflective surfaces created an atmosphere that is both refined and welcoming. The palette was deliberately muted allowing the architecture and vistas to take precedence as well as echoing the Club’s understated elegance. A new bar and dining area formed the social heart of the Club.

This project restored the Club’s sense of purpose while projecting it confidently into the future.
